New Coffee Trends in 2017

Create a happier, healthier workplace

By Avanti Markets / Apr 05, 2017

It has been around since 800 AD and is the second most traded commodity in the modern world. Researchers say it could reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, its smell alone can wake us up and 80 percent of U.S. adults consume it daily. If you haven’t guessed yet, this amazing substance is coffee! Coffee can be drip, espresso, vacuum, French pressed, cold brewed, instant, decaff and more. With so much history and so many variations, what new coffee trends could possibly be coming soon to an employee break room and an Avanti Markets micro market near you? Here are the top three coffee trends to look out for in 2017.

  1. NITRO COFFEE: Move over Guinness, coffee is the new Nitro drink in town. Nitrogen-infused coffee has a smooth, soft mouth-feel that lends richness and flavor. Nitro coffee is also popular because it comes from the tap, making it a fun new coffee experience. Nitro coffee has even begun to pop up in ready-to-drink bottles, making it convenient and quick for people on the go. Which brings us to the next trend…
  2. RTD (READY TO DRINK) COFFEE: Although gourmet coffee is extremely popular, many people don’t have time (or money) to stop at the local coffee shop every day for a custom brew. The new year will bring a new array of RTD coffee options that are convenient and could be cost-effective.
  3. COLD BREW COFFEE: Brewing hot espresso over ice is so 2016. In 2017 we will see cold brew continue to take over as the iced coffee brewing method of choice. With cold brewing, the coffee is produced by soaking the beans rather than scalding them. Cold brew coffee retains more of its natural oils and has less acid per ounce than hot brewed, making the flavor smoother.

Aside from how we will consume our coffee, there is a growing trend toward consuming sustainably grown and fair trade coffee. As consumers become more eco-conscious, coffee brands will increasingly rely on marketing messaging and education around their environmental and fair-trade initiatives.

One thing is for sure, no matter where we travel the one item we will surely find at any restaurant, café or micro market, in one form or another, will still, undeniably, be coffee.
